Almost 30 years ago while Dr. Evans was in dental school, he was intrigued with the opposite degrees of concern and protocol demonstrated on campus regarding the handling of mercury. Before Dr. Evans went to Dental School he was working in an undergraduate Pharmacy School laboratory. A student dropped and broke a thermometer containing a small amount of liquid mercury. All of the students and staff were evacuated from the laboratory to prevent exposure to mercury vapor. A year later, as a dental student in dental school, there was that same silvery, liquid metal again (mercury). Only this time it was being handled openly on the countertops with bare hands and fingers with no alarm.

The "Dentists-to-be" were learning about the "malleable properties, unsurpassed durability, and lengthy history as the dental restoration material of choice" known as dental amalgam, or mercury amalgam.

So then, is mercury safe or is mercury harmful? 

Dentists who openly question their own industry's advocacy for mercury amalgams do so at the risk of censure and disciplinary action. Members of the International Academy of Oral Health & Toxicology, including mercury free and mercury safe pioneers Hal Huggins, Mike Ziff, Murray Vimy and many others, are true whistle blowers who have sought out and implemented the use of alternative materials. They do this for ethical reasons, but have found many cosmetic reasons as well.

Dr. Evans is a leader in the field of 'Biologic Dentistry' because of his extensive experience using exceptional alternative dental materials.
